The Marie Bashir Clinical Research Provisional Fellowship in Adolescent Health Research is available at The Children's Hospital at Westmead, (CHW) part of The Sydney Children's Hospitals Network, for the 2026 Clinical Year, from 02 February 2026 to 31 January 2027.
The Fellowship was named after the former Governor of New South Wales and former Chancellor of the University of Sydney, Professor Marie Bashir. The Marie Bashir Fellowships acknowledge the great role that she played in the development of adolescent mental health services in New South Wales and her abiding concerns for youth health care, particularly for those at the margins of society.
This position is supported by NSW Health and affiliated with the University of Sydney's Professor of Adolescent Medicine and the Network Head of Adolescent Medicine, and is supported by the Department of Adolescent Medicine at CHW and the Clinical School at CHW. The preferred applicant may be considered for the award of a conjoint academic title (levels A to D) in the Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Sydney at a level commensurate with their qualifications and experience. The award of the academic title will also confer membership upon the appointee of the University Specialty of Child and Adolescent Health. The academic title will be held for the duration of The Children's Hospital at Westmead appointment. No remuneration is attached to the University appointment. The appointee will be responsible to the University for academic matters and to The Children's Hospital at Westmead for clinical matters.
The work the Fellow undertakes is a combination of clinical care and clinical research. The position would suit either a Paediatric or Adult Medicine Advanced Trainee, including trainees undertaking sub-specialty training where Adolescent and Young Adult patients might form a significant proportion of their clinical work. This position is accredited for advanced dual training in Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine through the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) for 6 months Core A and 6 months Core B.

Selection Criteria:

MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category.

Registered with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians as an Advanced Trainee (AT) (preferably in the final year of training).

3-6 months experience in relevant subspecialty or equivalent preferable.

Previous experience in either: a) clinical management of adolescents and/or some experience in adolescent health b) basic knowledge of clinical research processes and methods c) elected training pathway where adolescent and young adult medicine training relevant d) possible interest in RACP AYAM training.

Excellent communication skills and demonstrated ability to liaise effectively with other health professionals.

Ongoing commitment to further education and professional development and demonstrated ability to teach, and willingness to participate in the teaching of Medical Students, Junior Medical Staff and other clinical staff.

Demonstrated contribution to the development of hospital services e.g. participation in Paediatric Junior Staff matters, representation on behalf of the Hospital, participation in Hospital Committees preferable.
