What you'll be doing
The primary purpose of a Provisional Fellow in Pain Medicine is to provide advanced-level practice in a complex clinical environment in pain medicine, whilst under supervision.
Provisional Fellow are expected to demonstrate a higher level of knowledge and skills in their primary field prior to entering a Pain Medicine fellowship year potentially including, but not limited to:
- Anaesthesia
- Pain Medicine
- Obstetrics and Gynaecology
- Intensive Care Medicine
- Internal Medicine
- Rehabilitation Medicine
- Surgery
- Palliative Medicine
The Prince of Wales Hospital Pain Medicine Training Scheme is a comprehensive scheme providing training approved by Faculty of Pain Medicine, ANZCA.
Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable permanent resident or citizen of Australia has been identified for this position following suitable labour market testing.
To be Employed by NSW Health you are required to provide evidence of vaccination to comply with the NSW Health Occupational Assessment, Screening & Vaccination against Specified Infectious Diseases Policy, this includes any amendments made from time to time

- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category
- Completed fellowship training in applicant’s primary specialty of Anaesthesia, Internal Medicine, Intensive Care Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Palliative Medicine, Rehabilitation Medicine or Surgery
- Demonstrated work experience in acute and chronic non-cancer and cancer pain management for at least a 6 month term.
- Demonstrated advanced ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team in the planning, delivery and coordination of patient care.
- Demonstrated experience in pain research with evidence of current research undertakings or scientific publications.
- Demonstrated commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate medical teaching with university appointments and medical colleges involvement.
