Where you'll be working
Western Sydney Local Health District is responsible for the provision of health services to the local government area comprised of Auburn, Baulkham Hills, Blacktown, Holroyd, and Parramatta and tertiary care. These services are provided through a number of hospital and community-based facilities located strategically across the District.
Western Sydney Local Health District is committed to achieving continuous quality improvement in client services within a Quality Management framework, with a supporting Strategic Plan aimed at the continuous improvement of all facilities. The District has individual facilities located at Westmead, Cumberland, Auburn, Blacktown and Mount Druitt.
All hospitals provide a range of both in-patient and outpatient services to clients both from within the boundaries of the District and cross border flows. In addition to this, there are a number of facilitates strategically located across the District that provide primary health care services to the community.
The Westmead pain management centre is a multidisciplinary centre catering to both inpatient and outpatients persistent pain management. It offers support to patients with complex acute, sub-acute and chronic pain conditions. We offer a comprehensive service including medical, physical therapy, psychological and interventional pain management.
What you'll be doing
The primary purpose of a Provisional Fellow in Pain Medicine include:
- Provide medical assessments in chronic pain patients attending the triage clinic and participate in the multidisciplinary pain clinic meetings.
- Provide medical management of these patients in the follow-up clinic.
- Provide inpatient consultations for acute and chronic pain patients and liaise between the two services.
- Provide clinical input to the group and education programs established for these patients.
- Provide input into education sessions of the chronic pain services and provide education and supervision for JMOs involved in the Pain Services.

Training Opportunities
- Westmead pain management centre currently awaits re-accreditation in June 2021, until such period it is recognized for the practice development year of FPANZCA training.
- We have the scope to provide a wide range of subspecialty training within the specialty of pain medicine:
o Acute pain
o Chronic Pain
o Cancer pain
o Paediatric pain
o CL Psychiatry
o Drug and Alcohol
o Interventional Pain Management - Trainees must be progressing toward completing their training in their primary specialties and be eligible to register as trainee with the Faculty of Pain Medicine ANZCA.
Intention to present for fellowship examination of the Faculty of Pain Medicine Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists.
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
- Advanced ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team in the planning, delivery and coordination of patient care
- Sound clinical knowledge in Pain Medicine, demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position
- Advanced communication skills, including the ability to convey, and adapt verbal and written information to a clinical and non-clinical audience
- Advanced organisational and time management skills and ability to manage competing priorities in a complex environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to teaching and supervision
- Experience and involvement in quality assurance activities and evidence-based best practice.
- Familiarity with research concepts and commitment to support basic, applied or clinical research within the Department.
