What you'll be doing
The primary purpose of this role is to provide advanced level practice in a complex clinical environment in pain medicine, whilst under supervision.

Provisional Fellows are expected to demonstrate a higher level of knowledge and skills in their primary field prior to entering a fellowship year potentially including, but not limited to:
  • Anaesthesia
  • Pain Medicine
  • Palliative Care
  • Surgery
  • Emergency Medicine
  • Intensive Care Medicine
  • General Practice
The position is open to qualified candidates from the above specialty fields.  The Provisional Fellow is expected to be involved in chronic and acute pain inpatient services as well as Outpatient pain services and be able to operate with an appropriate degree of independence.  There is opportunity to enhance skills in a chosen area, with support provided for research activities. Candidates for this position will be able to engage in self-directed as well as work-directed learning of relevant principles and material.

  1. Qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role.
  2. Trainees must be progressing signficantly toward completing their training in their primary specialties and be eligible to register as trainee with the Faculty of Pain Medicine ANZCA. Intention to present for fellowship examination of the Faculty of Pain Medicine Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists.
  3. Demonstrated advanced ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team in the planning, delivery and coordination of patient care.
  4. Demonstrated advanced communication skills, including the ability to convey, adapt verbal and written information to a clinical and non-clinical audience.
  5. Demonstrated advanced organisational and time management skills and ability to manage competing priorities in a complex environment.
  6. Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
  7. Demonstrated advanced ability to remain calm and act constructively when faced with high pressure situations or unpredictable environments.
  8. Demonstrated previous experience in and willingness to deliver undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and training and commitment to the after-hours and on call roster.
