About the opportunity

NSW Health Pathology is seeking a highly experienced Project Manager to lead the delivery of a critical and complex scientific equipment project in the Northern region. This role is responsible for managing the successful implementation of Abbott Chemistry instrumentation, with a focus on achieving outcomes on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. Working closely with the Chemistry Equipment Program Manager and key stakeholders, you will drive end-to-end project activities including planning, governance, risk management, benefits realisation and change control. Your expertise in scientific environments will be key to navigating the unique challenges of this high-impact, state-wide initiative.


This is an opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping diagnostic capability and service delivery for NSW. You will build strategic relationships across clinical teams, laboratories, executive leaders and external vendors, all while contributing to continuous improvement across systems and processes. What you'll be doing

The Project Manager/Scientific Project Lead Chemistry Equipment (Northern area Abbott instruments) manages the risk, quality and progress of the projects required as part of the Chemistry Equipment Project to organisational standards, and ensures projects are completed on time, on budget, to quality standards and within agreed scope. The Project Manager will develop and maintain project documents and schedules, work closely with the Chemistry Equipment Program Manager, team,  project sponsors and key stakeholders, ensuring the benefits of the program are realised by the business.

  1. Relevant qualifications and/or extensive experience of chemistry pathology processes and workflows including sound practical knowledge of clinical and/or scientific laboratory operations, verification and accreditation requirements. 
  2. Experience and a record of achievement in leading and managing complex and large projects in a healthcare setting.
  3. Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team to manage project scope, monitor project progress, identify and manage project risks and provide appropriate advice at a senior level project outcomes.
  4. Highly developed analytical, negotiation and problem solving skills within a complex environment, to deal with challenges creatively and achieve business focused solutions.
  5. Demonstrated organisational skills and experience working in a high volume and demanding professional environment.
  6. Highly developed interpersonal and written communication skills including the ability to produce project documents, reports, and communicate with a diverse range of stakeholders providing high quality customer focused services.
  7. Proven proficiency and experience using Microsoft Office Suite, including MS Teams, as well as demonstrated experience using project management software.
  8. Current driver’s license and willingness to travel between sites across as needed and approved.
