Fixed term temporary, full time (1.0 FTE February 2026 – February 2027)
We’re seeking a Post Graduate Fellow in Traumatology to provide care to patients under the supervision and guidance of consultant staff whilst undertaking a comprehensive post graduate fellowship training program in Orthopaedics or General Surgery.
This opportunity is suitable for Australian registered specialists or international medical graduates on an approved pathway. International medical graduates who are overseas trained specialists must be assessed by the relevant Australian Specialist Medical College and, as a result, gain registration with AHPRA on a pathway satisfactory to the college, AHPRA and the Local Heath District prior to commencement.
What you’ll do:
- Deliver high quality, safe, and effective surgical care to patients across Hunter New England Local Health District, under consultant supervision
- Undertake initial assessments, develop and implement management and discharge plans, ensuring continuity of care
- Attend trauma activations during working hours and ad hoc after hours to support timely progression to definitive care
- Participate in a structured teaching program, supervising junior staff and engaging in education for medical, nursing and allied health professionals
- Engage in high quality research activities and translating evidence into practice and develop a good knowledge of trauma scoring systems
What we’re looking for:
- Registration with AHPRA or eligibility for specialist registration in Orthopaedic or General Surgery and/or overseas trained specialist pathways
- Demonstrated clinical expertise consistent with the level of a Post Graduate Fellow
- Strong communication, collaboration and advocacy skills in multidisciplinary healthcare settings
- Technical competence in surgery and procedures relevant to the Fellow’s training and experience
