Postgraduate Fellow in Echocardiography version 2

The Intensive Care Unit at St George Hospital seeks a Postgraduate Fellow in Echocardiography who demonstrates signficant skill and interest in echocardiography.  Applicants must be able to operate at a consultant level in intensive care service delivery(with senior support available at all times).  This role is comprised of 50% clinical duties and 50% echocardiography-related duties.  Applicants are expected to gain proficiency in the performance and reporting of formal echocardiography studies, both transthoracic and transoesophageal, during the one-year fellowship program.  There will be opportunities to participate in echocardiography-related research, quality assurance, and pursue higher qualifications under the guidance of the Echocardiography Program Supervisors.
 
The St George Hospital Intensive Care Unit is a 52-bed, level 3 general Intensive Care Unit in a 700-bed tertiary referral and the major trauma centre for SESLHD.  It is a major teaching hospital of the Faculty of Medicine, UNSW.  It is accredited for training with the College of Intensive Care Medicine (C24)  The unit is comprised of a broad range of high acuity surgical subspecialties (including cardiothoracic surgery, neurosurgery, complex abdominal surgery and ECMO) as well as medical subspecialties.

Salary and conditions are in accordance with Staff Specialists (State) Award/Post Graduate Fellow.

Selection Criteria

  1. Registration or eligible for registration with Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA). Candidate to provide AHPRA Registration Number on application.
  2. Fellowship of the College of Intensive Care Medicine and/or equivalent specialist recognition as provided for by the Health Insurance Act 1973 and the relevant Award/Determination.
  3. Evidence of a commitment to training and education in critical care echocardiography, with competency in basic echo and a desire to pursue higher qualifications in the field.
  4. Self-monitoring/audit practices consistent with the scope of practice requirements of the position.
  5. Proven capacity and/or experience in the provision of effective high quality tertiary critical care services, demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position including evidence of participation in quality improvement activities relevant to the specialty.
  6. Demonstrated commitment to teaching with experience in teaching both undergraduate and post graduate students and other staff of the hospital.
  7. Demonstrated ability to work effectively and harmoniously with medical and other health services colleagues as part of a multi-disciplinary ICU health care team and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients, colleagues, and staff and to work as an effective member of the clinical team.
  8. Demonstrated experience in and commitment to research relevant to the role and needs of the Department.
