This role will involve comprehensive hands-on training in advanced aortic procedures, including open and endovascular techniques, with clinical responsibilities spanning both public and private healthcare settings. The role encompasses research contributions and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams including Vascular Surgery, Intensive Care, and the Institute of Academic Surgery.
The Post Graduate Fellow in Cardiothoracic Surgery will provide high quality clinical care, diagnostic and consultative specialty services in Cardiothoracic Surgery at the level of a Post Graduate Fellow, and participate in teaching, research, quality improvement and administrative activities within the Cardiothoracic Surgery Department and Royal Prince Alfred Hospital as required. They will ensure high standards of professional performance and contribute to an academic environment which supports education, research and professional development and will require a degree of flexibility and ability to manage competing demands on time, including being available and on call to support and manage patients with aortic dissection requiring emergency management within the Sydney Local Health District.
The Post Graduate Fellow in Cardiothoracic Surgery is a full- time position, and will involve public sector and potentially private sectors, with expectations that the position covers aortic surgical work at RPAH and contributes to cover of other RPAH Cardiothoracic surgical lists as needed, as well as completing an aortic surgical research project with objectives set out by Head of Cardiothoracic Surgery over the course of tenure in the position. The private hospital component of the position will be purely aortic surgery-based and will be determined by Head of Cardiothoracic Surgery, noting that involvement in other non-SLHD hospitals will be subject to their local medical appointments/governance requirements.
The successful applicant will be registered, or eligible for registration, with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), and Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) with recognised qualifications in Cardiothoracic Surgery and/or other equivalent specialist recognition as provided for in the NSW Staff Specialists (State) Award.
Salary and conditions are in accordance with the NSW Staff Specialist (State) Award.
