About the Opportunity
SWSLHD Drug Health Services is recruiting for a Drug & Alcohol Youth Service Peer Worker (Health Education Officer - Graduate/Non-Graduate) to complement and enhance the current team.

Drug and Alcohol Youth Service (DAYS) Peer Worker uses knowledge from their personal journey to support consumers by providing individual consultations, education, and group interventions aimed at facilitating harm reduction principles, choice, self-determination and social connectedness.

South Western Sydney is rapidly growing and is a great place for young people and families to build a life. We are close to public transport, a short drive to the beach and the natural wonders of the Blue Mountains and Royal National Park.

  1. Recognised Degree or other qualification deemed appropriate by the employer (e.g. Peer Worker Training) and/or Must have a lived experience of addiction and a level of recovery that enables you to share personal lived experience to support others with their own journey whilst drawing on effective strategies to maintain wellness.
  2. An understanding of and commitment to harm reduction and consumer led recovery principles.
  3. Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  4. Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective partnerships with a range of key stakeholders including but not limited to Emergency Department staff, GPs, non-government organisations, inpatient and community DHS teams, consumers, carers and families and broader communities.
  5. Demonstrated sound written and verbal communication skills, and computer literacy with the ability to use relevant software programs (e.g. Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  6. Good organisational and planning skills to organise one's own daily work.
  7. Demonstrated ability to proactively engage with consumers to enhance service delivery and to guide others in providing service excellence.
  8. Applicants must possess an Australian C-Class driver's license (including P1 or P2). Those who hold a C class license (P1 or P2 included) from a state other than NSW must obtain a NSW C class (P1 or P2 included) license within three months of appointment. Learner's licenses are not permitted.
