Are you someone with lived experience in mental health who has desire to help others, is empathic and has an ability to lead and guide peers?
We would welcome your application to join our team as our Peer Support Manager and influence the way care is provide yo our consumers on their journey to recovery.
The Peer Manager will draw upon their lived experience of mental health concerns and their personal recovery journey, to develop empathic relationships and support personal recovery for mental health consumers of the South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD). The goal of the peer worker component of the role is to support the consumer through their mental health service journey by providing individual consultations and group based activities aimed at facilitating recovery principles of hope, choice, self-determination and social connectedness.
As a Peer Manager, the position will also work in conjunction with the ESMHS Rehabilitation Coordinator, SESLHD Consumer Partnerships Coordinator, Mental Health Sector Executive and Service Managers to:
- Manage and provide leadership for a small team of Peer Workers across the Sector Mental Health Service;
- Oversee the planning, provision and evaluation of high quality Peer Work Services across the Sector, including Mental Health Inpatient Units and Community Mental Health Services;
- Provide direct peer support to consumers of SESLHD;
- Play a lead role in contributing to and implementing the SESLHD strategic directions for consumer participation.

Selection Criteria:
- Personal experience as a consumer of Mental Health Services and ability to utilise the lived experience to support others in their own mental health recovery journey.
- Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work or willingness and commitment to obtain.
- Previous experience in a Consumer Peer Worker role, with the ability to plan, implement and evaluate group based and individual peer led activities.
- Demonstrated experience effectively managing staff including ability to provide leadership, monitor and manage work priorities and develop performance of staff to achieve work objectives
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to strategic service planning and policy development for the peer workforce and consumer participation
- Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills
- Experience in the use of software packages including Word, Outlook, Powerpoint and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Current Drivers Licence (with a willingness to travel in accordance with the demands of the position).
