About the role: 

As one of the three Occupational Therapists at The Hunter Spinal Cord Injury Service (HSCIS), you will be part of a multidisciplinary team delivering evidence-based care to work with clients to achieve their goals. This will include;

  • Assessment and treatment of adult clients with spinal cord injuries who are living in the community.  This may be conducted in our on-site gym, client’s homes, or other community settings.
  • Liaison and consultation with private providers working with our clients under the NDIS or Lifetime Care schemes, or with inpatient therapists to provide SCI-specific support.
  • Completion of HSCIS multidisciplinary assessments for new clients and consultation with other members of the team both in case conference and informally.
  • Case management of clients and liaison with rehabilitation specialists and other health care providers in the community.


Where you’ll be working: 

  • The HSCIS is a multidisciplinary team that provides specialist health services to people who have sustained a Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) due to trauma or from a non-progressive disease process.
  • The HSCIS is based at Newcastle Community Health Centre with clients being seen both through clinic-based appointments and community visits. Telehealth is also offered as appropriate.
  • The HSCIS team is a small and very supportive team who provides a specialised service to clients living in the community.

  • Orientation to CACS GNS and the HSCIS will be provided, along with access to all mandatory training through HNEHealth. 
  • Peer supervision occurs with the OT team at HSCIS, with specific support available through the senior OT. External supervision is also available if required. Peer supervision for Case Management occurs regularly at the HSCIS.


Requirements:

Our successful candidate will possess the following:

  • Occupational Therapist with current Authority to Practice with AHPRA.


About you:

  • You will have great communication skills who enjoys working in a small team environment and contributing to the holistic care of clients with SCI.
  • You will require excellent time management skills and the ability to manage a varied caseload, with clinical supervision as required.
  • Experience in working with people with spinal cord injury is preferred.
