Where you'll be working

SESLHD Drug and Alcohol Service offers a range of treatment and support services for people with problems from their alcohol, prescription or illicit drug use, and/or their families and cares. Outpatient D&A services are located in clinics at the Langton Centre in Surry Hills, St George Hospital in Kogarah, and Caringbah Community Health Centre at Sutherland Hospital. Inpatient D&A services are provided at Sydney Hospital, Prince of Wales, St. George and Sutherland Hospitals.

The purpose of the Nursing Unit Manager (NUM), Opioid Treatment Program (OTP) is to:

  • Lead, direct and co- ordinate patient or client care.
  • Ensure the practice of nursing and/or midwifery is safe and efficient, maintaining standards of care through continual quality improvement initiatives.
  • Lead and co-ordinate the nursing/midwifery and multi-disciplinary care team at the unit level.
  • Monitor and manage the business and management functions and processes of the unit.

The Nurse Unit Manager (NUM), Opioid Treatment Program (OTP) is responsible for the operational management of the OTP unit. The position is expected to lead, guide and manage the Service to ensure the delivery of high-quality services consistent with NSW Health and South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) policies, procedures and standards. In addition to management responsibilities, this position is expected to participate in clinical services delivery.

    Selection Criteria

    1. Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulatory Agency (AHPRA).
    2. Post-graduate qualifications or experience as a Nursing Unit Manager, with demonstrated skills in leadership and management within a health care setting including negotiation and conflict resolution skills and the ability to manage change.
    3. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the management and delivery of drug and alcohol services including Opioid Treatment Programs.
    4. Demonstrated ongoing commitment to professional development to further advance their management and leadership competencies.
    5. Commitment to Primary Health Care philosophy and willingness to work within the harm reduction framework.
    6. Demonstrated understanding of Work Health and Safety legislation.
    7. A demonstrated understanding of quality improvement, research methodology and accreditation.
    8. Demonstrated level of oral and written communication skills and experience in preparing and editing high quality written material including complex reports, correspondence, briefings, papers and proposals.
