The purpose of the Nursing Unit Manager (NUM) role is to:
lead, direct and co-ordinate patient care within the unit; ensuring the nursing practice is safe and efficient, maintaining standards of care through continual quality improvement initiatives; supporting and developing staff together with the Emergency Department (ED) Leadership Team; monitor the business and management functions of the unit, aiming to meet agreed targets and Key Performance Indicators (KPI); ensure safety of staff/patients/visitors in the unit

Established in 1958, The Sutherland Hospital campus offers a comprehensive range of inpatient and community services to around 226,000 residents of the Sutherland Shire, colloquially known as ‘The Shire’. Part of the  South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) and located in Caringbah, the hospital campus is close to some of Sydney’s great beaches, restaurants, bars and cafes at Cronulla and is close to the beautiful Royal National Park. At Miranda, just a short walk away from the hospital, there is a Westfield Shopping Centre and cinema complex.

    Selection Criteria:

    1. Registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse/ Midwife.
    2. Relevant management tertiary qualification and/or ED management work experience, with a demonstrated commitment to professional development
    3. Proven clinical leadership skills and an ability to lead a team with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in nursing practice and person-centred practice.
    4. Demonstrated knowledge and recent clinical experience in the management and delivery of Emergency health care services
    5. Effective interpersonal and communication skills that demonstrate the ability to engage, enable and manage teams.
    6. Demonstrated evidence of the use of critical thinking as it relates to the delivery of advanced evidenced based nursing care and managing change.
    7. Demonstrated negotiation and conflict resolution skills
