What you'll be doing

SESLHD’s Sexual Health and Blood Borne Virus Service (SHBBV) provide leadership, innovation and research in the sector. There are services within SHBBV involved in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of Sexually Transmissible Infections (STIs) and blood borne viruses at an individual and population level within SESLHD, as well as four statewide services 


Across these services, care is provided via fixed locations and outreach networks to a client base of approximately 28,000 individuals. SHBBV has highly skilled and diverse staff including nursing, medical, allied health, health promotion, administrative and technical staff. It is the largest SHBBV service in Australia
The Nursing Unit Manager Level 1 is the registered nurse in charge of the unit at Sydney Sexual Health Centre (SSHC) and works in close collaboration with the Nurse Unit Manager Level 3 (NUM3). 

The NUM1 will facilitate quality patient care by efficient and effective management of the nursing unit. The role will focus on the coordination of the day-to-day functions of the nursing unit, ensuring effective rostering and appropriate skill mix. The NUM1 will work with the Nursing Unit Leadership Group to oversee effective orientation, accreditation and provide clinical observation and feedback sessions for all nursing staff to ensure skill development and maintenance of a high-quality standard of care.  They will remain actively involved in the clinical care of patients and conduct regular clinical session as directed by the NUM3. This role is also a part of the SSHC site management team and will assist in the strategic directions of the service and maintenance of high-quality standards of care.

The purpose of the Nursing Unit Manager Level 1 (NUM1) in collaboration with NUM3 is to:
  • Lead, direct and co-ordinate patient or client care
  • Ensure the practice of nursing and/or midwifery is safe and efficient, maintaining standards of care through continual quality improvement initiatives
  • Lead and co-ordinate the nursing/midwifery and multi-disciplinary care team at the ward or unit level, and Monitor and manage the business and management functions and processes of the ward or unit

Population and Community Health (PaCH) is part of South Eastern Sydney Local Health District.

 
PaCH provides community health services that give care to individuals, families and carers, as well as population health services that focus on the whole community or key groups within the community.
 
PaCH's services are provided at the District's hospitals, community-based facilities including child and family health centres, community health centres and specialist clinics. We work with other service providers across South Eastern Sydney Local Health District, including hospitals and mental health services.

Selection Criteria:

  1. Current Authority to Practice as a Registered Nurse, Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
  2. Extensive clinical nursing experience in the sexual health field.
  3. Relevant management tertiary qualification or equivalent work experience, or a combination of study and work experience with a demonstrated commitment to professional development.
  4. A demonstrated knowledge and experience in the management and delivery of health care services.
  5. Proven ability in innovative clinical service delivery, harm minimisation and practice development
  6. Effective interpersonal and communication skills that demonstrate the ability to engage, enable and manage teams
  7. Proven ability to create and maintain a positive workplace culture and articulate and achieve a vision for nursing services.
  8. Current drivers licence and a willingness to travel in accordance with the demands of the position.
