Your new role:
The Nurse Manager, Cancer and Palliative Care is responsible for the provision of strategic and operational direction of the service, for the support, ongoing service development and managerial direction to the clinical services.
The Nurse Manager is also responsible for the effective management of clinical services, its people and resources, in partnership with the Co-Director.
The Nurse Manager reports to the Co-Director Nursing and Midwifery Operations (Medicine, Aged, Rehabilitation and Extended Care, Southcare, Cancer, Outpatient Services and Women’s and Children’s Health Services) and works within the Nursing Executive Team, whilst maintaining established professional reporting structures, including the established structures for nurses and midwives’ professional, functional and managerial reporting to the Co-Director. The position assists in the development and implementation of the strategic plan for SESLHD.

Bangawarra Cancer Care Centre is located at The Sutherland Hospital (TSH) and incorporates the 8 bedded Oncology medical inpatient ward, the Oncology Day Centre and the Oncology medical clinics. The centre is supported by a multidisciplinary team including Nurse Practitioner Oncology, Clinical Nurse Consultant Oncology, Allied Health, Palliative Care Team and Oncology Medical Team. This highly skilled multi-disciplinary team are passionate and committed to providing a high level of care when managing patients with various Oncology conditions and needs.
The Oncology outpatient clinic operates weekdays Mon - Fri from 07.30am to 5: 00pm. There are 9 chairs and 2 beds allocated for the treatment of Oncology and limited Haematology outpatients. Treatments include administration of chemotherapy agents, immunotherapies, blood product support, iron infusions and therapeutic venesections. The clinic is supported by Medical Consultants, Advanced Medical Oncology Registrar, McGrath Clinical Nurse Consultants and Allied Health including Dietitian, Social Work, Clinical Psychology, Psychiatry and Palliative Care Team.
The Palliative Care Team at TSH provides an inpatient consultative service and Supportive Care Clinics by assessing and advising, coordinating, planning, directing and evaluating the care of palliative care patients, covering both malignant and non-malignant disease. The palliative care team consists of a Palliative Care Specialist and medical team, Clinical Nurse Consultant, Clinical Nurse Specialists, and Registered Nurses. The team facilitates patient transfers to palliative care inpatient units when appropriate and referrals to the community palliative care teams.

Selection Criteria:
- Registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse
- Tertiary qualification in management and/or operational management experience at a senior level within a complex health care environment including the development and implementation of business/operational and strategic plans.
- Demonstrated experience in financial management and the ability to develop financial strategies and achieve goals.
- Demonstrated capacity to utilise high level problem solving, negotiation, interpersonal and communication skills in the review and evaluation of clinical service provision.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to motivate inspire and organise staff to achieve organisational, program and professional outcomes.
- Demonstrated experience in the application of change management principles and achievement of measurable outcomes in a quality and safety framework
- Demonstrated capacity and ability in managing a complex service with competing demands for access and resources through the implementation of innovative strategies and systems
- Demonstrated understanding of the complex issues impacting on effective and efficient delivery of Cancer and Palliative Care services both in the inpatient setting and in the Community
