What you'll be doing
The Career Medical Officer (CMO) working as the Night Duty Medical Officer (DMO) is on site to respond to situations in the units that nursing staff are requesting assistance for.  This position is available from 3 February 2025 to 1 February 2027.
 
Standard Hours of the night duty are 22:30 – 08:30.
 
All services operate within a multidisciplinary team-based environment and the CMO will be working with and reporting to consultant psychiatrists.  The clinical work will involve working within a multi-disciplinary context and conducting assessments and planning treatment and/or discharge in accordance with the Mental Health Act, (2007) NSW.  Supervision will be provided primarily by the Macquarie Hospital Clinical Director.
 
The DMO will receive a detailed handover from the registrar they are relieving at the start of each shift and will provide a similar handover to the DMO starting in the next morning.
  1. MBBS or equivalent and Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency registration
  2. Consistently demonstrates behaviours that reinforce the CORE Values of our organisation; Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment. Demonstrates these behaviours with all stakeholders; colleagues, direct reports, as well as our patients and consumers, and those that care for them
  3. Experience working in mental health settings and familiarity with NSW Mental Health Legislation or equivalent legislation
  4. Demonstrated high level of communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills
  5. Demonstrated commitment to continuing self-education and development, including evidence of participation in continuing medical education/continuing professional development
  6. Preparedness to participate in the Duty Medical Officer roster including the after-hours rosters already existing or established
  7. Evidence of ability to work cooperatively with other staff and practitioners in a multidisciplinary health care team environment
  8. Current NSW Drivers Licence and the ability to drive
