The role:
Jump into your new career with Midwifery at John Hunter Hospital! Affectionately known as “The Mothership”, John Hunter Hospital is the centralised point for a wide range of maternity and birthing services. It is the leading health facility in Newcastle and supports all levels of complex midwifery and birthing services. As one of our New Graduate Midwives, you will rotate through our entire service to get a feel for the different aspects of midwifery including birthing suites, postnatal and antenatal care. You will get to undertake the entire scope of practice for a midwife, enjoying the ability to gain hands-on experience in all facets of midwifery. 

You won’t be working alone. This is a supported New Graduate study pathway - education and ongoing training are pillars of this position. You will be provided support by the senior Midwives, the Midwifery Unit Managers (MUM’s), and Team Leaders. There are core education teams in each area which provide targeted, appropriate education as well as set study days to help you work towards your career goals. Requirements:

  • Registration as a Registered Midwife with Authority to Practice with AHPRA at the commencement of employment.

Additional Information:

  • An eligibility list will be created for future permanent part-time or temporary part-time vacancies.
  • To be eligible for employment in this position you must be an Australian Citizen, or permanent resident of Australia, or a New Zealand citizen with a current New Zealand Passport, or hold an appropriate visa that allows you to live and work in Australia. Employment of a temporary visa holder will only be offered in line with the conditions and expiry date of your visa.
