Essential Requirements 
Registered medical practitioner with Medical Board of Australia.

  • A Staff Specialist must have full registration and
    • has spent not less than five years in the practice of medicine in New South Wales in the Health System or in any other institution, whether in New South Wales or elsewhere, deemed by the Employer to be of equivalent standing; and
      i. has obtained a Fellowship of a recognised Australasian Specialist College (Preferably RCMA); or
      ii. has proof of recognition as a specialist by the Specialists Recognition Advisory Committee; or
      iii. has conditional registration with the NSW Medical Board as an overseas-trained specialists (not including conditional registration as a general practitioner; or
      iv. does not have a qualification recognised under (i) (ii) or (iii) above, but has obtained an appropriate higher qualification in his/her specialty acceptable to the Employer after consideration by the Medical and Dental Advisory Committee of the Employer.


Selection Criteria

  1. Higher medical professional training in health or related discipline with postgraduate medical qualifications.
  2. Significant experience as a health manager in a broad-based management, administrative, public health or clinical discipline, with capacity to build culture in a multidisciplinary team.
  3. Extensive experience in policy development and review, and program development, implementation and evaluation, with ability to apply valid research methods to public policy and programs.
  4. Advanced oral and written communication and interpersonal skills, to interact effectively with staff, managers and external stakeholders, make effective presentations and prepare, review and edit correspondence, briefings, reports, papers and proposals.
  5. Advanced conceptual and analytical skills and ability to interpret complex information rapidly and accurately.
  6. Demonstrated high level time-management and organisational skills and capacity to deliver high quality products within agreed timeframes including ability to delegate effectively and to contribute to the success of others.

COVID-19 Vaccination Compliancy 
All NSW Health workers are required to have completed a primary course of a COVID-19 vaccine which has been approved or recognised by the Therapeutics Goods Administration (TGA). Additionally, Category A workers are required to receive a booster dose three months after completing the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations. New applicants must have completed the vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health, or provide an approved medical contraindication certificate (IM011 immunisation medical exemption form) certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW.
Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Booster doses are highly recommended for all health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations.
