About The Role:
John Hunter Engineering Department – Apprentice Painter Role Overview
- The John Hunter Engineering Department comprises 51 staff members. With the exception of the Engineering Control Room and Management, all staff operate on a standard day-work schedule from 7:00 am to 3:57 pm, working 8.45 hours per day. This schedule allows for a 9-day fortnight, including one unpaid rostered day off per cycle.
- The Apprentice Painter will work under the guidance of Trade Qualified Painters and may be assigned to any department within any building on the John Hunter campus, including its associated buildings. The role will involve a broad range of painting tasks across various environments, offering valuable exposure to real-world maintenance and refurbishment work within a large, multi-disciplinary healthcare facility.
- The Apprentice Painter will work alongside the Tradesperson Painter and the Senior Apprentice Painter, undertaking all duties as directed and as outlined in the position description.
- The apprentice is also required to enrol in and complete the relevant TAFE course associated with the painting trade.
- Support will be provided by qualified trade staff and John Hunter Hospital (JHH) Engineering management as required.
- Additional guidance and assistance will be available from the Organisational Capability and Learning Office at Waratah.
- The apprentice will be enrolled in the appropriate level of the TAFE trade course relevant to painting.
- Participation in the Hunter New England Local Health District (HNELHD) in-house training is required.
The apprentice will also complete mandatory training through the My Health Learning platform.
Ideal Candidate – Apprentice Painter
- John Hunter Engineering is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join the team as an Apprentice Painter. The ideal candidate will have successfully completed a minimum of Year 10 schooling and will demonstrate a genuine interest in pursuing a career in the painting trade.
- A pre-apprenticeship course or school-based vocational training in painting or a related field will be considered highly advantageous. The successful applicant will be expected to commit to a four-year apprenticeship, which includes both on-the-job training and completion of the associated TAFE trade qualification.
- This opportunity is well-suited to someone who is eager to learn, takes pride in their work, and is prepared to work as part of a supportive and skilled team across the diverse facilities of the John Hunter Hospital campus and associated buildings
