We are seeking enthusiastic and dedicated medical graduates to join our RPR Intern Program for the 2026 clinical year. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain valuable clinical experience, develop your skills and contribute to the care of patients in a diverse and rewarding setting.
The Lismore Base Hospital (Richmond Network) is a vibrant and growing healthcare community, serving the community of Lismore and the surrounding region. We are dedicated to supporting and training our Junior Medical Officers and future medical leaders through a supportive and collaborative work environment for our medical professionals.
LBH is an affiliated teaching hospital for medical students from the University of Sydney, University of Wollongong, University of Western Sydney and Bond University. The hospital has a strong commitment to teaching and support for its Junior Medical Officers. We work closely with the University Centre for Rural Health (UCRH) to provide education opportunities to our Junior Medical Officers.
Our Interns and RMOs have a protected weekly education program, along with a wide range of education sessions provided by fellow JMOs, consultants and the UCRH.
In addition to the training opportunities available here in the Richmond Network, there are many social activities throughout the year organised by both the hospital and the JMO cohort to get to know your colleagues better.

Where you'll be working
Lismore Base Hospital (LBH) is the recognised Trauma Centre for the North Coast Region and is linked with the local helicopter retrieval service.
The hospital is an acute referral hospital of 280 beds on the Far North Coast of NSW, serving a population of approximately 170,000 people on the Far North Coast of NSW and has a busy Emergency Department (41,000 presentations annually & 55 beds/treatment spaces), 12 bed ICU and 6 bed Coronary Care Unit.
After a $312 million renovation, the improved health facilities allow for contemporary models of care that clinicians and staff are excited to deliver in their local community. We provide a wide range of medical and surgical specialties and subspecialties, as well as the majority of specialty services. LBH plays an important role in providing high level specialist services on a regional level, including (but not limited to):
- Access to a formalised Retrieval Service providing service over a 300km radius.
- Specialist emergency and elective surgical services including Vascular and Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery.
- Renal Dialysis and Renal Dialysis home-based training.
- Diagnostic and interventionist cardiology.
- Adult Mental Health Unit.
- Child & Adolescent Mental Health Unit.
Our region encompasses World Heritage listed rainforests and the pristine beaches of Evans Head, Ballina, Lennox Head and Byron Bay. This area is blessed by year-round sun, a tropical climate and a short winter. From lush hinterland villages, to Mount Warning, national parks, and sparkling beaches, the region is full of natural wonders and vibrant destinations all within a short drive from Lismore.
What you'll be doing
Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, under the supervision of senior medical officers to:
- Coordinate the admission, management and discharge planning of patients
- Undertake initial assessment of the patient including patient history, physical examination, formulating an initial management plan and ordering appropriate investigations
- Communicate and coordinate care with the team, arranging consultation with other staff when appropriate
- Communicate directly with patients and their carers
- Arrange discharge and liaison with local medical officers and other community-based care providers
- Follow-up and reviewed ordered investigations.
- Qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role
- Demonstrates ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills (at the required level of competency), judgment and expertise
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team with an understanding of the roles of the doctor and other members of the healthcare team
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with patients, family members and other members of the health care team
- Good organisational and time management skills and ability to manage competing priorities in a complex environment
- Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management
- Evidence of continuing professional development and commitment to self-education
