About the Role
As the Farm Gate Counsellor, you will provide a high quality specialist counselling service to individuals, families and agricultural groups within rural and remote communities adversely affected by natural disasters. As a clinician working in partnership with the Rural Adversity Mental Health Program, you will provide clinical services to individuals in disaster affected communities, in addition to the provision of professional/clinical supervision and leadership to less experienced practitioners.
Where you'll be working
The Farm Gate Support Program provides mental health and emotional support to farmers, farming families, local businesses and service providers affected by the many adversities faced by regional and rural communities. The support program is designed to meet the needs of individuals, couples and families; whether they require short term conversations and information or ongoing formal counselling options as well as an opportunity to build community cohesion.
You will have an autonomous role within a small team in the Upper Hunter or Peel (negotiable) with some outreach and travel required. You will be supported in this position by a thorough orientation period with continued training and educational opportunities provided.
About You
The successful candidate will have a strong dedication to regional and rural communities and the adversities they face working on the land including natural disasters such as droughts, economic pressures, infrastructure limitations, social isolation and changes in local industries. You will also possess knowledge of and commitment to the mental wellbeing of the agricultural community and experience in helping others to navigate prolonged stress. Your ability to provide mental health assessment and counselling (including risk assessment) to adults and children will be essential to your success in this role.
