The Family and Carer Peer Worker will be located at Sutherland Hospital, drawing on personal lived experience of family/carer role for a consumer with mental health challenges, to develop empathic relationships and collaborating in planning, delivery and evaluation of the service. The goal of the position is to work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team to ensure Family Focus Recovery Framework is adopted within the practice, to develop resources and provide information to families and carers by providing education and group interventions aimed at facilitating recovery principles of hope, choice, self determination and social connectedness.
In addition, this role provides information, advocacy, education and interventions to families and carers of mental health consumers and who reside in the Local Health District.

Selection Criteria:
To be considered for this position, please ensure you address the below questions as thoroughly as possible.
- Lived experience as a family member or carer for a person experiencing mental health challenges.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in health promotion or related discipline or extensive experience in the health promotion field, or combination of both study and work experience or for Non-Grad a Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work or willingness and commitment to obtain.
- Experience accessing and navigating health care services.
- Demonstrated knowledge of current local, State and National legislation and standards relevant to mental health.
- Familiar with lived experience values and principles, recovery principles, trauma informed care.
- Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to provide quality written documentation through the use of proficient IT skills.
- Demonstrated a strong interest in new knowledge and emerging practices relevant to the being a Familyand Carer Peer Support Worker.
- Current Drivers Licence (or a willingness to travel in accordance with the demands of the position).
