Where you'll be working


Royal North Shore Hospital Emergency Department features Adult and Paediatric Resuscitation and Trauma Bays, Acute Adult, Paediatric, Fast Track, and an Emergency Medical Unit. We are also a principal tertiary referral centre as well as a New South Wales Major Trauma Centre which sees us treat a larger proportion of high complexity presentations. We have an established team of qualified registered nurses, many with post graduate specialty qualifications, who are specialists at delivering care to Emergency patients as well as fostering staff of the future. We have highly qualified Clinical Nurse Educators, Clinical Nurse Specialists and Senior nurses who provide support for staff to ensure our team are delivering the latest and highest clinical standards and a robust education program. 

What you'll be doing

Royal North Shore Hospital is a large tertiary referral centre with over 600 beds and employing approximately 1200 FTE nursing staff.

The Nursing Unit Manager is responsible for the:

  • Direction, co-ordination and supervision of nursing activities;
  • Training, appraisal/ performance development, and counselling of nursing staff;
  • Rostering and /or allocation of nursing staff;
  • Development and/or implementation of new nursing practice according to patient need utilising Evidence Based Practice.

 

People of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background are encouraged to apply.

 

Candidates will need to meet the following criteria: 

  1. Registered Nurse-Division 1 with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (APHRA) and relevant management tertiary qualification or equivalent work experience including post registration experience in Emergency Nursing, or a combination of study and work experience; and demonstrated commitment to professional development.
  2. Current experience as an Acting NUM in a Tertiary Referral Hospital and/or equivalent relevant experience in Tertiary Paediatric in a mixed Emergency Department Counter-Disaster Management and Chemical, Biological and Radiological incidents within a Tertiary Hospital Emergency Department environment.
  3. Demonstrated experience in managing a team and evidence of recent operational / clinical management experience in a mixed adult and paediatric Tertiary Hospital Emergency Department.
  4. Evidence of ongoing learning and professional development and tertiary qualifications in Management, working towards same or willingness to undertake.
  5. Experience in evaluating complex models of care and being a clinical leader demonstrating negotiation, leadership and problem solving skills to effectively manage change in a multidisciplinary environment.
  6. Demonstrated commitment to customer service and quality improvement with the ability to manage priorities, meet deadlines and to initiate and achieve change.
  7. Knowledge of the major issues in nursing and health with an understanding of ED KPIs and experience managing same.
