The Opportunity
The Consumer Representative, drawing on their lived experience, actively engages and speaks up for consumers, with the goal of improving healthcare and services. The role will act as a link between consumers and clinical staff, providing knowledge, skills and guidance whilst helping consumers access the services they need. The Consumer representative works together with AOD staff to bring about positive changes in service delivery.

This role can be structured as two part-time positions, with 20 hours each in Coffs Harbour and Port Macquarie, or as a full-time role based in either location for the right candidate who is willing to travel within the district. 
About You

Do you have lived experience as a consumer of a drug and alchohol service with an appropriate health/social science qualification and demonstrated understanding of the issues affecting people who use drugs and/or alcohol and different treatment methods?  Do you understand harm minimisation principles within an Alcohol and other Drugs (Drug and Alcohol) context?  If so, we want to hear from you!

The Mid North Coast Local Health District (MNCLHD) is a government funded health organisation that covers an area of 11,335 square kilometres extending from Port Macquarie in the south to Coffs Harbour in the north.  MNCLHD provides a diverse range of services to a population of approximately 215,000 people.  It has a workforce of 4,964 across seven hospital sites and 12 Community Health Centres.

A TALENT POOL MAY BE CREATED FOR FUTURE ROLES AND WILL REMAIN VALID FOR 18 MONTHS.

  1. Direct/lived experience as a consumer of a drug and alcohol service (in order to be a Health Education Officer Graduate - requires an appropriate health/social science qualification requiring a minimum of three years full time study or other qualifications deemed equivalent).
  2. Demonstrated understanding of the issues affecting people who use drugs and/or alcohol and different treatment models.
  3. Understanding of harm minimisation principles within an Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) context.
  4. Ability and willingness to work with consumers and health workers within diverse communities, fostering understanding and promoting inclusivity.
  5. Demonstrate the ability to build rapport and advocate for consumers, supporting them with their health goals and provide consumer perspective at regular meetings / forums.
  6. Good organisational and planning skills to organise one's own daily work, with ability to work independently and as an effective team member.
  7. Demonstrated ability to provide the consumer perspective at regular meetings/forums.
  8. Current Driver’s Licence and willingness to travel as required.
