What you will be doing: 

An exciting opportunity awaits for a Community Drug and Alcohol Clinician to join our team at Penrith Community Health Centre on permanent full time basis.


Your role as Drug and Alcohol Clinician will see you provide comprehensive drug and alcohol and other psychosocial assessments to inform treatment planning, along with ensuring that evidenced based psychosocial interventions are completed to assist the patient achieve their agreed upon treatment goals relating to their substance use.

New applicants must have completed the vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health or provide an Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW. A NSW Health agency may require further information about the medical contraindication (including but not limited to an Immunisation Medical Exemption form – IM011 form).


Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Booster doses are highly recommended for all health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations.

Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable permanent resident or citizen of Australia has been identified and must not exceed the duration or conditions associated with the current visa.

Selection Criteria to be addressed:

  1. Tertiary qualifications, professional registration/membership and significant clinical experience as follows: i) Occupational Therapy - minimum Bachelor Degree and general registration with AHPRA; with clinical experience in a Drug and Alcohol treatment setting or ii) Counselling and Social Work – minimum Bachelor Degree and eligibility for membership of AASW; with clinical experience in a Drug and Alcohol treatment setting or iii) Generalist Psychologist - a four year degree in psychology, being a three year degree with a fourth year honours in psychology; or who has qualifications deemed equivalent by the employer, and has full registration with the Psychology Board of Australia with clinical experience in a Drug and Alcohol treatment setting.
  2. Demonstrated ability to effectively build relationships with all stakeholders, plan and organise, provide clinical reasoning skills.
  3. Demonstrated ability to provide evidence-based drug & alcohol psychosocial: assessment, individual/ group interventions, case management and referral services in a public health setting.
  4. Evidence of an advanced level of effective communication skills and computer literacy.
  5. Demonstrated ability to assess, identify, manage and escalate clinical and operational risk within a drug and alcohol treatment setting.
  6. Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a multidisciplinary team and detailed knowledge of evidence based clinical handover processes.
  7. Demonstrated commitment to working and partnering with Aboriginal patients, families and communities as well as improving the health outcomes for socially disadvantaged groups of patients within the local community.
  8. Current driver's license and willingness to use for work purpose travel.
