About the role:
As a Clinical Nurse Specialist Grade 2 in Mental Health, you will bring your expertise and leadership to a dynamic and fast-paced environment, working as part of a dedicated multidisciplinary team. Based at Tomaree Community Hospital, you will work closely with an experienced registered nurse while also being part of a broader team of 45 staff across Newcastle. Your role will involve providing high-level clinical care, guiding and supporting less experienced staff, and contributing to the clinical review and governance processes. With strong assessment skills and the ability to work autonomously, you will manage your caseload efficiently, starting each day with safety risk huddles and ensuring effective time management.
This role is well-supported by both the direct manager and the overarching Newcastle Mental Health Service, with monthly accountability meetings and ongoing professional development encouraged. The team fosters a positive work culture, with opportunities for leadership growth and regular social activities, including monthly barbecue catch-ups. While the environment is fast-paced, staff retention is high, with team members typically progressing to advanced positions. Outside of work, the Tomaree region offers beautiful coastal experiences, including dolphin cruises, making it a great place to live and work.
Based at Tomaree Community Hospital in Port Stephens, this role offers the perfect balance of career growth and coastal lifestyle. Just a few hours from Sydney, Port Stephens provides a quieter, more affordable way of life with a strong sense of community.
Surrounded by pristine beaches and national parks, the area is perfect for those who enjoy surfing, sailing, or simply unwinding by the water. Nelson Bay is also a huge sporting hub, with top-tier facilities for rugby, soccer, netball, and golf—ideal for families and active individuals.
At Tomaree, you’ll be part of a close-knit team, well-supported within the Newcastle Mental Health Service. With regular team catch-ups and leadership opportunities, this role lets you make a real impact while enjoying the best of coastal living.
