Clinical Nurse Specialist Grade - 2, Chest Clinic - Temporary Part Time - Sydney/ Sydney Eye Hospital
Are you a motivated Registered Nurse who is interested and ready to make an impact? Sydney/Sydney Eye Hospital is seeking a dynamic Clinical Nurse Specialist Grade 2 -Chest Clinic to join our nursing team and help drive high-quality, safe care.
The Role

The main role of the Clinical Nurse Specialist - Grade 2 – Chest Clinic is to offer clinical nursing leadership in the Chest Clinic at Sydney Hospital and Sydney Eye Hospital, aiming for optimal outcomes in treating patients with respiratory conditions and those requiring respiratory screening. This position collaborates with the CNC Chest Clinic, NUM Outpatient Department and Medical and Allied Health staff, reporting directly to the NUM Outpatient Department.
In consultation with the NUM, the Clinical Nurse Specialist - Grade 2 is responsible for:
- Demonstrating clinical expertise in respiratory conditions and respiratory/TB screening.
- Managing the Outpatient Chest Clinic operationally, including referral management, the coordination of patient triaging and patient flow.
- Communicating with patients and Chest Clinic staff about patient flow, wait times, and escalating extended wait times to the NUM.
- Implementing action plans to oversee patient care and co-ordination within the Chest Clinic.
- Evaluating and reviewing the effectiveness of strategies employed for respiratory/TB patient management.
- Providing staff education and assessment, collaborating with CNC Chest Clinic, Clinical Nurse Specialists, and NUM to identify gaps within education and working together to deliver the educational support required within the Chest Clinic.
- Serving as a role model and leader for nursing staff in providing expert care.
- Acting as a resource person for staff providing care to patients with respiratory conditions or TB.
- Communicating changes or updates in patient status regarding respiratory monitoring, treatment and screening to the CNC Chest Clinic and NUM Outpatient Department.

Selection Criteria
- Current registration with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia (AHPRA) and current NSW Driver's License (if required by service).
- Relevant Post graduate qualifications in the specialty of Tuberculosis or Respiratory clinical area, and at least 3 years recent experience working, or such other qualifications or equivalent experience deemed appropriate.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex clinical care and service delivery issues and problem solve through the development and use of clinical management plans.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise extended autonomy of decision making while working as part of a multidisciplinary team and apply professional and ethical boundaries when dealing with complex situations.
- Demonstrated skills in the development & facilitation of patient and carer education [and staff as required]
- Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to identify key messages, issues and concerns when communicating with others.
- Detailed knowledge and understanding of harm minimisation and evidence of leadership in safety and quality innovation.
- Demonstrated competence in the use of health-related information technology
