About the Opportunity 
We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Clinical Midwifery Specialist (Grade 2) with expertise in lactation to join our team.

In this critical role, you will provide expert guidance and support to new mothers and their families, promoting successful breastfeeding practices and enhancing maternal and infant health outcomes.

As a Lactation Consultant, you will work closely with the midwifery and obstetric teams to offer tailored lactation advice, troubleshoot breastfeeding challenges, and implement individualised care plans for both routine and complex cases.

This is an opportunity to make a profound impact on the wellbeing of mothers and babies while contributing to a compassionate and forward-thinking maternity care environment.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced midwife with specialised certification in lactation consultancy (IBCLC), coupled with strong communication and problem-solving skills.

In addition to providing direct patient support, you will play a key role in educating staff, participating in quality improvement initiatives, and contributing to policy development.

Bankstown-Lidcombe Hospital is located in the city of Bankstown and is in one of the most multicultural local government areas (LGA) in Australia. This hospital has tertiary affiliations with three universities and offers a range of roles and experiences to employees.

  1. Current Authority to Practice as a Midwife with Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Relevant post-registration qualifications and at least 3 years’ experience working in the clinical area of the employees specified post-graduate qualification, or such other qualifications or equivalent experience deemed appropriate by SWSLHD.
  2. Demonstrated experience and skills in providing complex care in the relevant field.
  3. Demonstrated ability to provide safe compassionate quality care that is culturally responsive.
  4. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and engage with patients/consumers, carers and the multidisciplinary health care team to identify and ensure responsiveness of care needs.
  5. Demonstrated capacity to interact with others in a personable and professional manner and personally resolve conflicts when they arise.
  6. Demonstrated evidence of the use of critical thinking as it relates to the delivery of advanced evidenced based midwifery care.
  7. Demonstrated understanding and participation in risk management, work health and safety and quality improvement in the workplace.
