  • To deliver a high quality clinical Child Life Therapy service to children and young people and their families of the Palliative Care service.
  • Organise, coordinate and deliver comprehensive Child Life Therapy service to patients managed by the multidisciplinary & Palliative Care team at The Children’s Hospital Westmead site.
  • Provide support to the patients and families of the Palliative Care Team in which ever context best supports the family at a given time, including inpatient admissions, outpatient appointments and outreach/home visits as required.
  • Provide professional support to all Child Life and Music Therapy department staff in the area of Palliative Care.
  • Provide education to families about the importance of play and recreation for Palliative Care patients.
  • Provide psychosocial support to the patients, siblings and families of the Palliative Care team
  • Provide memory making opportunities for patients and families in Palliative Care
  • Contribute to the planning and development of the Play and Music Therapy department and the Palliative Care team
  • Provide information, referrals and education about hospital and community resources for Palliative Care Patients.
  • Ensure children undergoing clinical procedures and their families have access to appropriate resources and education to adequately prepare them for their treatment.
  • Take account of the rights of patients and ensure confidentiality of care, and plan treatment with respect to patient diversities and provide a non-discriminatory service.
  • Participate in the department in-service education program as well as attend internal and external postgraduate lectures, seminars, courses, conferences when appropriate in consultation with department manager.
  • Assist with cover as required ensuring an equitable service to all patients referred.
  •  Ensure maintenance of accurate and current patient records and statistics and monitor caseload trends and outcome measures.
