The CFH Social Worker delivers early intervention-focused social work, enhancing parenting, family function, and infant mental health through home visits.

Remuneration: $112,396 – $116,038 per annum
Hours Per Week: 38 (Job Share may be considered for part time hours)
Location: Merrylands Community Health Centre, The Hills Community Health Centre & Auburn Community Health Centre

What you'll be doing
The CFH Social Worker provides specialist social work and counselling interventions with an early intervention focus which aim to enhance parenting capacity, promote healthy family functioning, support families at a time of change and promote infant mental health.

The CFH Social Worker works closely with Child and Family Nursing. Intervention is based on a sustained home visiting model. The focus of intervention is the adult (parent or carer) through the exploration of the parent /child relationship and presenting issue.

The CFH Social Worker position provides high level clinical consultation, advocacy and support to the Child and Family Nursing team. This includes consultation with individual clinicians as well as collaborative input into team case conferencing. The Social worker will contribute high level clinical expertise to case planning, case management as a part of the multidisciplinary health team and during case review/discussion meetings.

The CFH Senior Social Worker is operationally responsible to the Service Coordinator Child & Family Health.

Essential Criteria

  • Qualification: Bachelor degree in Social Work or equivalent
  • Registration: Eligibility for full membership of  Australia Association of Social Workers (AASW)

Selection Criteria:

  1. Demonstrated advanced clinical knowledge, skill and significant clinical experience in the provision of Social Work.
  2. Extensive experience working in early intervention with families and young children, including: parent child interaction, perinatal infant mental health and early intervention with families and young children.
  3. Demonstrated advanced therapeutic, counselling and groupwork skills and experience in group work with families with complex clinical presentations in relevant clinical settings such as perinatal mental health, child protection, domestic violence and substance misuse.
  4. Extensive clinical experience providing clinical consultation and facilitating case review, in the context of family centred casework within a community based multidisciplinary team.
  5. Demonstrated ability in developing and maintaining co-operative professional relationships, with other health teams, government and NGO agencies through the use of well-developed interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
  6. Demonstrated high level verbal, written and interpersonal skills including the ability to adapt communication style to suit different audiences.
  7. Demonstrated high level organisational and time management skills in an environment of competing clinical/administrative demands.
  8. Current driver’s licence valid with Australia.
