What you'll be doing
The Child and Family Health Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS2) works as part of the NSLHD Child and Family Health Secondary Level Service within the community-health based, multidisciplinary Child and Family Health Service.  The CFH Secondary Level Service is an early intervention service for children whose family have more complex psychosocial vulnerabilities and needs. 
 
The CNS2 applies specialist clinical knowledge to undertake comprehensive, child and development checks and parent/carer assessments using a family partnership approach to develop child and family centred goals and interventions which address complex health, development, and psychosocial needs. The service is provided, in families' homes. virtually, or in-centre from the antenatal period to when children go to school. 

The role provides clinical leadership, acting as a professional role-model and mentor for other CFH nurses, multidisciplinary service colleagues and students. The CNS2 will also contribute to complex service issues including clinical practice and patient safety reviews, and quality improvement initiatives designed to enhance client outcomes, in collaboration with their Sector NUM and broader CFH service.

Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:

  1. Current registration as a Registered Nurse with Australian Health Practitioners’ Regulation Authority (APHRA), with post-registration qualifications relevant to child and family health (CFH) nursing and at least three (3) years full time equivalent clinical experience working in a child and family community health setting or such other qualifications or relevant equivalent experience.
  2. Demonstrated currency and recency of practice with advanced knowledge of, and ability to apply, family- partnership, person-centred, trauma-informed, culturally sensitive, and inclusive care principles in undertaking early-intervention focused child and family health nursing practice in line with relevant NSW Ministry of Health Policies.
  3. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal communication skills and ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, engage effectively with families and communicate with multiple service stakeholders, to coordinate care.
  4. Demonstrated ability to work independently in a community health setting, and autonomously apply clinical reasoning to interpret complex assessment findings and making decision about client-goal oriented care plans.
