Remuneration: $139,187 - $207,388
Hours Per Week: 38
Requisition ID: REQ576630 - Central Coast Local Health District - Anaesthetics - Career Medical Officer - Gosford Hospital

Central Coast Local Health District (CCLHD) has an opportunity for suitably trained and experienced medical officers interested in working at CMO level in Anaesthesia Central Coast. We value our staff as our most important resource and strive to provide support and development opportunities throughout your career with us and we invite you to be part of our community.

We are seeking to employ 2FTE Career Medical Officers in Anaesthesia, specifically to assist with delivery of the endoscopy service. We welcome applications from people with appropriate skills in this area, seeking full-time or fractional appointments. There is no on-call component to the role. This service has seen significant growth because of the Government Bowel Screening Program, the recent closure of a local stand-alone endoscopy facility on the Coast and the backlog from COVID. Successful applicants will provide safe anesthesia care for patients undergoing upper and lower GI Endoscopy in the Endoscopy suite at Gosford and/or Wyong Hospitals. Both suites are located immediately adjacent to the Operating Suite and share the same PACU. Supervision, advice and assistance is immediately available from the consultants in the Operating Suite

The Anaesthetic Department has over 70 consultants (Staff Specialists and VMO FANZCAs), 36 FTE Trainees (including PF’s) and 8 Residents. Our department is accredited as an ANZCA Scheme training site. We see good exam results at Primary and Part 2 level.  We run regular weekly clinical teaching and offer a variety of practical workshops through the year, including: ALS, CICO regional anaesthesia workshops, Neonatal Resuscitation, Retrieval Medicine training, Chest Tube workshop & Trauma Team training, Awake Fibre Optic Intubation Course & Difficult Airway Workshops. Successful applicants are welcome to participate in any of this training and education. Through our training scheme, we have educational links with Royal Prince Alfred, St Vincent’s, Sydney Children’s, John Hunter Hospital & Gosford Private Hospitals, with rural rotations to Dubbo & Coffs Harbour.

We offer Regional Provisional Fellowship program and Retrieval Provisional Fellowship program (run jointly with Hunter Retrieval Service), in addition to General Anaesthesia PF programs, offering excellent transition to consultant practice.

We are an accredited training site for the DRGA and one of our consultants is an examiner for the DRGA, although at this stage have not had any DRGA trainees pass through our department.

The NSW Central Coast is positioned between Sydney and Newcastle, with a population nearing 500,000.

Gosford Hospital is the central point of administration for Coastal Health Care. Together with Wyong, it provides a capacity of around 700 inpatient beds for the bulk of the surgical services on the Coast. This is increasing, with $600M redevelopment projects recently completed at both Gosford and Wyong Hospitals.

Caseload is around 28,000 per year and rising with specialties including vascular (with an increasing endoluminal workload as well as major open vascular procedures), major urology (including nephrectomies), upper GI (including oesophagectomies) and a developing chronic pain service, all supported by a brand new 20-bed ICU. The public hospital is the sole provider of maternity services on the Coast, with a delivery rate of over 3000 births per year. Because the local population includes significant numbers of families with young children plus retirees, there is a challenging mix of ages and comorbidities, producing excellent and varied clinical experiences. CCLHD has strong connections with Royal North Shore Hospital (default matrix) and is affiliated with the University of Newcastle.

Gosford Hospital is the principal referral hospital and a trauma centre for the Central Coast, with approximately 500 inpatient beds and 24-hour access to its Emergency Department and 12 theatre Operating Suite. Inpatient services include Coronary and Intensive Care, Interventional Cardiology, General Medicine, Neurology, Renal, Geriatrics, Obstetrics, Mental Health, Paediatric and Emergency services. Surgical disciplines include  General, ENT, Vascular, Plastics, Urology, Breast, Endocrine, Paediatric, Dental, O&G, Orthopaedic, Colorectal and Upper GI. Outpatient and community services include Allied Health, Dental, Podiatry, Nursing, Child and Adolescent and Family Health, Drug and Alcohol, and Cardiac Rehabilitation.

Wyong Hospital is an acute major metropolitan hospital providing inpatient, outpatient and emergency services to residents in the northern part of the NSW Central Coast. Wyong Hospital has approx 300 inpatient beds and provides a range of medical, surgical and critical care services. Specialty services include Intensive Care, Coronary Care, Drug and Alcohol, Gastroenterology, Stroke, Mental Health, Rehabilitation, Orthopaedics, Vascular, Urology and Cancer services. Wyong Hospital is further developing its role as a district general hospital for a growing population with a renovation that delivered a new Emergency Department, ICU, Paediatric unit, 5 Theatre Operating Suite and inpatient units allowing the further development of clinical services.
