Join a compassionate, forward-thinking team that’s redefining aged care.

We’re looking for a Career Medical Officer (CMO) to join our Residential Aged Care In-Reach (RAC-I) service – a vital part of Hunter New England Health’s commitment to delivering high-quality care for older adults.

As a CMO, you’ll work closely with a friendly, supportive, and inclusive multidisciplinary team that includes specialists in Geriatric Medicine, General Medicine, and Infectious Disease, along with Nurse Practitioners, Registered Nurses, Allied Health Professionals, and General Practitioners from local RACFs.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Delivering urgent, proactive care to residents in Residential Aged Care Facilities (RACFs) – either face-to-face or via virtual care (Health Direct Video Call, My Virtual Care).
  • Working in partnership with RACFs, GPs, and other health services to avoid unnecessary hospital transfers.
  • Supporting residents to receive the right care, in the right place, at the right time – ideally within the comfort of their usual accommodation.
  • Playing a key role in a dynamic and collaborative service that values continuity of care and patient quality of life.
  • This innovative model of care complements other Hunter New England Local Health District services, all working together to provide integrated care for our older population.

Essential Requirements

  • Qualified medical practitioner registered in Australia.
  • At least three years post-graduate experience and appropriate training and experience to undertake: (a) Care of patients with multiple medical problems in a community setting. (b)  Management of heart failure consistent with National Heart Foundation of Australia and Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand guidelines. (c) Management of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) consistent with “COPD-X” guidelines. (d) Home visits within the Greater Newcastle Sector in an HNE vehicle as required.
  • High level skills and involvement in clinical care, supervision, mentoring and teaching. Able to exercise a moderate degree of professional independence.
  • Experience in Community General Practice would be an advantage but is not essential.
