What you'll be doing
Electrocardiograms
Record 12 lead ECG, including atrial, post operative and during drug response testing.
Data entry management and report generation, measure heart rate and cardiac intervals.
Holter monitors
Recording and analysis of a patient’s 24 or 48 hour ECG. Analysis is done through specific scanner software. Provide preliminary reports to Cardiologists. The maximum and minimum heart rate and significant occurrence of rhythm disturbance or arrhythmia is analysed and documented.
Cardiopulmonary Stress Testing
This involves the use of a computerised cardiopulmonary stress test system for testing paediatric and adult patients on both treadmill and ergonomic bike to assess fitness and cardiopulmonary function. The physiological functions measured are blood pressure, pulse oximetry, lung function, inspired and expired respiratory volumes and gases, metabolic analysis and diagnostic ECG. Liaise with attending medical practitioner regarding the appropriate clinical tests and treatment. Assist with CPR.
Ambulatory Blood Pressure
Recording and analysis of a patient’s blood pressure over 24 hours.
Patient Activated Recorders
Recording and analysis of a patient’s self activated cardiac rhythms, downloaded remotely by the patient over the phone and scanned using a computer.
Outpatient clinic services
Perform the relevant tests requested by the physician.
Research
Assist in internal and external cardiac related research projects.
Cardiac Catheterisation
Involves set-up of pressure transducers. Zeroing of transducers and monitoring of venous and arterial pressures. Recording and analysis of waveforms. Calculations of flows, shunts and resistances. Understanding of stock consumables. Recording of blood saturations using a co-oximeter. Blood gas analysis. Creation of heart picture diagrams.
Creation of a “final report” for the Cardiologists.
Pacemakers
Interrogation of pacemakers, defibrillators and loop recorders as required. Organise clinic bookings. Run the clinics. Liaise with the Cardiologists. Communicate with the pacemaker companies and representatives. Adjust patient settings as required.
Administration
Purchasing and stock control
Implementation and continuous development of protocols
Theatre Monitoring
Involves set-up of pressure transducers, ECG and Blood saturation for open heart and closed heart surgery. Zeroing of transducers. Monitoring of venous and arterial pressures and any extra intra-cardiac pressures. Understanding of stock consumables.
Blood gas analysis. Perform activated clotting time (ACT’S). Assist with patient transfer to PICU. Participate in On-call roster as requested.
Liver Transplantation
Involves set-up of pressure transducers, ECG and Blood saturation. Collection of blood’s during the procedure. Perform blood gases.
Collection of data and data entry into database. Compile final report.
- Must have a BSc or equivalent.
- Experience in Adult or Paediatric Cardiac Services (Preferably within a hospital environment).
- Sound ECG interpretation skills.
- Excellent written, spoken and personal communication skills.
- Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team.
- Sound organisational skills and ability to work under pressure.
- Participate in regular overtime and On-call arrangements.
