Where you'll be working

Sutherland, St George and Prince of Wales Hospitals Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy teams are seeking team members that are motivated to provide best possible compassionate care to our community. As an allied health assistant, working with an Occupational Therapist, or a Physiotherapist, you will provide support to deliver health care to people in hospital. Your day includes working with clients on their therapy program, setting up equipment, and communicating with many people at the hospital. 

In the event there are no suitable Aboriginal and / or Torres Strait Islander people applicants then applicants from non-Aboriginal applicants will be considered’.

An eligibility list for Allied Health Assistants for Occupational Therapy and, or Physiotherapy will be created from this process. Applicants selected for the eligibility list may be offered permanent, temporary, or casual roles that become available, at St George Hospital, Sutherland Hospital and Prince of Wales Hospital.  

What you'll be doing

As an Allied Health Assistant, you will provide support to the therapy team in the delivery of health care services to patients under the direct, indirect, or remote supervision of a Therapist and consistent with South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) policies, procedures and standards.

Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable permanent resident or citizen of Australia has been identified for this position following suitable labour market testing.
All workers and new recruits are required to receive 2 doses of a Therapeutic Goods Administration approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccine to commence employment/ engagement or continue to work within a NSW Health service.
A worker and new recruit will be considered compliant if they have a medical contraindication to all available Therapeutic Goods Administration approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccines and provide medical contraindication evidence in line with the policy requirements.
In addition, all Category A workers and new recruits are required to receive one dose of the seasonal influenza vaccine annually to be considered compliant.
Category A workers and new recruits who are non-compliant with seasonal influenza vaccination or have a medical contraindication to influenza or COVID-19 vaccinations must comply with all other infection control risk reduction strategies as directed while working in a Category A position.

 Selection Criteria 

1. Do you identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander? If so, please tell us about your Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage, including a brief description of your family and community connections.
2. Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance, or equivalent work experience and a willingness to work towards certification with the support of SESLHD.
3. Proven interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
4. Computer literacy or a willingness to learn.
5. Demonstrated ability to be self-directed and work with minimum supervision, to organise work priorities and manage time effective.
6. Knowledge and understanding of Work Health and Safety legislation and principles.
7. OT positions: Current Class C NSW drivers licence (or equivalent).
