What you'll be doing
The After-Hours Nurse Manager (AHNM) represents the leadership team of Westmead Hospital after hours and is responsible for overseeing the operational management afterhours including patient flow, bed management, staffing, and responding to potential or actual adverse events that may impact the facility.  The role works in consultation with all clinical and non-clinical staff working in the afterhours setting to ensure the delivery of patient care.

The position is supported by the Westmead Executive on Call.

Essential Criteria:

Registration: Current authority to Practice as a Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (APHRA)

Selection Criteria:

  1. Relevant tertiary qualifications in management or working towards attainment in same, or extensive clinical experience in the field that demonstrates ability to perform the role.
  2. Recent and extensive management experience in senior nursing and/or health management within an acute care Health facility
  3. Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the principles of patient flow
  4. High level computer literacy including working knowledge of staff scheduling and patient flows systems
  5. Demonstrated ability to manage the utilisation of nursing resources in an effective and financially responsible manner
  6. Demonstrated high level interpersonal, communication, (written/oral which includes ability to complete briefs and proposals) conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
  7. Demonstrate understanding of current issues impacting on the nursing profession.
