Drug and Alcohol Services at SESLHD provide treatment and support for people experiencing problems related to the use of alcohol, cannabis, stimulants, heroin or prescription medications (e.g. opioid analgesics, benzodiazepines).

What you'll be doing

This position is an accredited Drug and Alcohol Addiction Medicine training position. The role will provide effective clinical management of patients, under appropriate supervision, including patient assessment, making treatment decisions, performing procedures and maintaining adequate medical records; and develop expertise in medical practice in a complex clinical environment. This includes supervised general medical management of patients admitted to specialist departments.

  1. MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category.
  2. At least 3 years postgraduate years of medical practice and enrolled or eligible to enrol in AChAM (RACP), AFPHM (RACP) or GP Training programs.
  3. Demonstrated interest and commitment to further education and practice in addiction medicine or public health medicine
  4. Demonstrated experience working with clients with issues related to drug or alcohol use with commitment to harm minimisation philosophies
  5. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team in the planning, delivery and coordination of patient care
  6. Demonstrated high level communication skills, including the ability to convey, and adapt verbal and written information to a clinical and non-clinical audience
  7. Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
  8. Demonstrated high level independent clinical skills and judgement, with the ability to make sound decisions and problem solve with an awareness of limitations and ability to learn independently and modify behaviour accordingly.
