Where you'll be working
These are gastroenterology advanced training positions for current trainees who are interested in applying for a specialty year focusing on advanced endoscopy. Trainees applying for these positions should have completed at least two years of gastroenterology advanced training prior to 2025.
These positions may also be suitable for current gastroenterology trainees who will obtain their fellowship from the RACP this year and wish to complete a further year of endoscopy training.

What you'll be doing
- Non-core advanced trainee in their 3rd year (or beyond) of training, with a strong focus on interventional endoscopy.
- Responsible for co-ordination of the endoscopy unit’s delivery of scheduled and non-scheduled or urgent cases.
- Training in ERCP will be offered and there may or may not be exposure to endoscopic ultrasound. (The Concord Hospital position may also offer sub-specialty exposure to Inflammatory Bowel Disease).
- The trainee will be expected to adopt a progressively more independent approach to patient management according to their experience, under the guidance of, and at the discretion of the Attending Medical Officer (AMO).
- The trainee will be involved in inpatient management, outpatient clinics, consultation and procedural sessions
- The trainee will assist with and continue the current clinical endoscopic research programs.
- The trainee needs to be familiar with standards of good clinical practice within clinical research and clinical trials in Endoscopy, EUS and Gastroenterology.
- The trainee will be required to understand the investigation, diagnosis and management of general gastroenterology, interventional endoscopy ERCP and EUS cases in both an inpatient and outpatient setting.
- The trainee will undertake the management of patients with conventional and complex endoscopic problems and will improve their skills in interventional endoscopy, including gastrointestinal bleeding, endoscopic palliation of malignancy, polypectomy, mucosectomy, complex colonoscopy, ERCP and possibly EUS.
- The trainee is responsible for assessment of patients, and their ongoing day to day management under the direction of the appropriate AMO who has legal responsibility for the patient.
- The trainee is responsible for appropriate documentation and communication with other staff members involved in a patient’s care. The trainee has a responsibility for training and supervision of junior medical staff.
- The trainee is responsible for the organisation of the clinical team and will contribute to the Departmental Administration and has responsibility of appropriately delegating clinical and administrative duties to the junior members of staff.
- The Hospital provides the trainee with an email account- it is the trainee’s responsibility to check their email as this is how Hospital Administration and Senior Staff will be communicating relevant information to them on a daily basis.
- The trainee will partake in the general gastroenterology after hours on call roster including management of acute GI bleeding. When on-call the trainee must be available and contactable at all times.
- Advanced Trainees are required to be contactable for the entire duration of their rostered "relief¨ shift.
- The trainee is required to assist and participate in the development and implementation of Quality Activities, ensure timely discharge and will have responsibility for discharge coding.
- He/she will be involved in the provision of departmental statistics, in keeping with that of the Department.

- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
- At least 1 core year of advanced training in gastroenterology.
- Successful completion of the examination requirements of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and eligible to undertake subspecialty training in Gastroenterology in Australia.
- Excellent theoretical knowledge and clinical judgement.
- Adept ability to work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams, including the sharing of appropriate information internally and externally with key persons or services.
- Advanced verbal, written and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to vary communication style in line with the understanding of the needs of diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritise workloads and display a flexible approach to meet changing situations in a demanding and unpredictable clinical environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to continuing professional development and self-education, quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
