Where you'll be working

Westmead Hospital is a key facility of one of Australia’s largest major health and medical research precincts and is the principal referral hospital for Western Sydney Local Health District providing district level health services to Parramatta, Holroyd and The Hills Shire LGAs including tertiary and quaternary services to greater Western Sydney, greater metropolitan Sydney, rural NSW and other states. The Westmead Health Precinct currently under development is envisaged to be the largest hospital building project undertaken in Western Sydney. This will transform Westmead Hospital into an innovative, contemporary, and integrated centre that will continue to deliver high quality healthcare and expand the education, health, and research capability otharea. Westmead Hospital is a leading centre of research, training and specialisation in all fields of Medicine and Dentistry. Westmead Hospital is also the principal referral centre for other metropolitan hospitals within the district including Auburn Hospital, Blacktown and Mount Druitt Hospital.

Western Sydney Sexual Health Centre (WSSHC) is a public sexual health service funded by NSW Health based in Parramatta with a second site located in Mt Druitt. The Centre provides free and confidential testing, support, treatment and management of sexually transmissible infections (STIs) and HIV. WSSHC offers a specialised sexual health service to people living with HIV/AIDS, gay and other men who have sex with men, Trans and gender diverse people, sex workers, people who inject drugs, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people with STI-related symptoms and people who had sexual contact with someone with HIV or STI


What you'll be doing

·     Two positions (1.0 FTE, 0.6 FTE) are clinically focused. One further position (1.0 FTE) has an academic (research and education) focus but trainees in this position will also have clinical duties. Please refer to position descriptions

·     Clinical assessment and formulation of management plans for patients presenting to the Western Sydney Sexual Health Centre (WSSHC), including collecting a sexual (and other risk) history, conducting an appropriate ano-genital examination with informed consent and collecting and handling specimens for STI diagnosis.

·     Effective communication with the patient and other relevant healthcare professionals and team members.

·     Appropriate patient counselling and education.

·     Acquiring knowledge and skills in public health, HIV medicine, viral Hepatitis, men’s and women’s’ Sexual Health and Reproductive Health.

·     Effective communication with referring healthcare professionals.

·     Participation in quality assurance, educational programs and appropriate research projects.

·         Other duties at the direction of the WSSHC Director.

STI/HIV patient care at sexual health clinics. Participation in evening and outreach clinics, as required. Make a significant contribution to existing research and teaching programs at WSSHC, including: assistance with the development of research projects (including Ethics Committee submissions), research grants proposals, data collection and writing of reports. Active participation in the educational programs for postgraduates and undergraduates, including face-to-face and online teaching. Other duties as determined by the Director of WSSHC.

  1. MBBS or equivalent, currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia
  2. PGY3 or greater having completed at least two (2) years of basic training in medicine with some experience in sexual health medicine, HIV medicine or a related field and satisfactory progression through training.
  3. Interest in Sexual Health Medicine
  4. Good communication skills.
  5. Clinical experience and skills in Sexual Health and/or HIV Medicine
  6. Experience or interest in clinical education and research
