Aboriginal Perinatal Mental Health Clinician

Essential Requirements.

1. Qualifications: Bachelors degree in Nursing/ Psychology/ Social Work/ Occupational Therapy or Health Science (Mental Health – Djirruwang Graduate).
2. Registration: Full Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Agency (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse/ Psychologist/ Occupational Therapist or for Social Workers eligibility for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers.
3. Evidence of Diversity Claim: Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.

Selection Criteria

1. Be Female and of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent (pursuant to Section 14 (d) and Section 31 of the Anti-discrimination Act NSW 1977).
2. Demonstrated understanding of the impact of mental illness in the perinatal timeframe.
3. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the local Aboriginal community and knowledge of the Aboriginal concept of social and emotional wellbeing, including an understanding of Aboriginal family structure and Aboriginal culture and wisdom.
4. Demonstrated understanding of the social, psychological, and financial implications of hospitalisation for Aboriginal consumers.
5. Demonstrated understanding of the principles and application of child protection guidelines within NSW Health.
6. Ability to work both autonomously and as a member of a multidisciplinary team, always working within the scope of registration and role, including ability to prioritise own workload.
7. Have effective written and verbal communication skills with a demonstrated competency in use of computerised administration systems.
8. Hold a current NSW Driver's Licence.
