The Role
The Aboriginal Mental Health Clinical Lead (Community and Courts) provides cultural, clinical, and strategic consultation and support to ensure the delivery of culturally safe and responsive care to First Nations people who are consumers of the NSW Community Forensic Mental Health Services (NSW CFMHS) and Statewide Community and Court Liaison Service (SCCLS). The Aboriginal Mental Health Clinical Lead (Community and Courts) works towards achieving positive health, wellbeing and social justice outcomes for First Nations people who experience serious mental health and substance use issues who engage in problem behaviour which results in contact with the criminal justice system by: leading the development of culturally safe and responsive mental health assessment, transition and treatment processes for the NSW CFMHS; developing culturally safe diversion and community support processes for SCCLS; supporting First Nations mental health clinicians and peer workers in the provision of safe cultural support and intervention; and connecting with Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations to develop partnerships in the delivery of culturally safe and responsive care in the community. The provision of cultural and clinical programs to specific cohorts will also be required.
Must be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent (N.B. applicants race is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised under Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977, NSW).
