About the Opportunity
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Aboriginal Liaison Officer (ALO) to join the Liverpool Hospital ALO team. The ALO works as part of the multidisciplinary team to provide culturally responsive care and support for Aboriginal patients and their families when accessing Liverpool Hospital. They play a pivotal role in supporting staff to ensure the cultural and psychosocial needs of Aboriginal patients are understood and met.
What You'll be Doing
The Aboriginal Liaison Officer (ALO) is responsible for supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients/carers/consumers in hospital settings.
The position is required to work as part of the hospital multidisciplinary team in order to:
- ensure the health, psychosocial and cultural needs of Aboriginal patients and their families/carers are taken into account when care is being provided.
- support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients and their families/carers to build their health literacy and capacity to manage their health issues.
The ALO is required to work effectively with staff of the hospital and other agencies including local Aboriginal Medical Service (AMS) and related community based services, in order to provide support and assistance to patients/carers/consumers receiving care from the hospital and community health services.
The position is also responsible for supporting effective transfer of care arrangements for Aboriginal patients to ensure they are linked to appropriate community based services.

SWSLHD has long established partnerships with Aboriginal Organisations in our region that are critical to the way we operate and deliver our services.

- Applicants must possess an Australian C-Class driver's license (including P1 or P2). Those who hold a C class license (P1 or P2 included) from a state other than NSW must obtain a NSW C class (P1 or P2 included) license within three months of appointment. Learner's licenses are not permitted.
