Selection Criteria

  1. Must be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage (NB applicant’s race is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised by Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977, NSW) and have established links with their local Aboriginal community. Must be female - Being a person of female gender is a genuine occupational qualification for this position under section 31H of the Anti-discrimination Act.
  2. Hold a minimum of Certificate III qualification in Aboriginal Primary Health Care OR a relevant Certificate III health qualification OR a formal commitment to complete a Certificate III qualification in Aboriginal Primary Health Care. Training will be supported by the district and must be completed within 2 years from enrolment.
  3. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the local Aboriginal community, including an awareness of the issues that impact on the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal people.
  4. Ability to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team.
  5. Understanding of the complexities of Aboriginal chronic disease and preventable lifestyle illness and how this relates to cultural understanding of health issues relating to the local or target client group.
  6. Demonstrated capacity to plan, develop, deliver and evaluate health promotion and education initiatives and the ability to use computer programs required to plan, deliver or document this care (including capacity to learn relevant programs, including those for patient records and data reporting).
  7. Ability to effectively communicate, collaborate and consult with others, including the ability to interact sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal people and to use email for written communication.
