Where you'll be working

Population and Community Health (PaCH) is part of South Eastern Sydney Local Health District.


PaCH provides community health services that give care to individuals, families and carers, as well as population health services that focus on the whole community or key groups within the community.

PaCH's services are provided at the District's hospitals, community-based facilities including child and family health centres, community health centres and specialist clinics. We work with other service providers across South Eastern Sydney Local Health District, including hospitals and mental health services.

The Role


The Aboriginal Health Worker provides cultural support and care coordination to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people referred to Child & Family Health services by working in partnership with the clinical care providers. Implements a range of health promotion activities. Participates in the review and development of existing and new programs. Increases the cultural appropriateness of care within the Child, Youth & Family services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and their families by supporting the decisions of the client, advocating for the clients and enabling the clients participation in their families care, identifying obstacles to ongoing care, and finding solutions that will enhance care outcomes.

Selection Criteria

  1. Being of Aboriginal &/or Torres Strait Islander descent is a genuine occupational qualification for this position under Section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).
  2. Holds or aspires to hold the Aboriginal Maternal Health Workers course or a minimum Certificate III in Aboriginal Primary Health Care.
  3. Knowledge and understanding of significant issues in Aboriginal health and its provision.
  4. Demonstrated skills in health education and care coordination or equivalent experience deemed appropriate.
  5. Understanding of early childhood & maternal health issues.
  6. Demonstrated oral and written communication skills and demonstrated ability to work as part of a team.
  7. Current NSW Drivers Licence Class C.
