This position qualifies for a Recruitment Incentive Package up to the value of $10,000 (pro-rata part-time/temporary positions less than 18 months), and a reoccurring Annual Retention Bonus valued up to $10,000 (pro-rata part time), under the NSW Health Rural Health Workforce Incentive Scheme.

This scheme recognises the role key health workers play in enabling the delivery of rural and remote health services, and aims to provide incentives over and above award entitlements, to attract and retain staff in these areas.

Packages may consist of family and compassionate travel assistance, an upfront Rural Recruitment Cash Bonus upon appointment, contributions to professional development, utility reimbursements and study assistance, in addition to relocation benefits and accommodation assistance.

To recognise ongoing service in this role, once the successful candidate has served a qualifying period, they will become entitled to a reoccurring Annual Retention Bonus valued up to $10,000 (as taxable income).

What you'll be doing

Help achieve better health outcomes for Aboriginal people by providing flexible, holistic and culturally sensitive health services
Develop and implement Aboriginal health programs, including health promotion/education and disease prevention programs to support patients to manage their health
Help address access and equity issues relating to Aboriginal health service delivery at the local level

About Wilcannia

Wilcannia is a small, primarily Aboriginal community in far west NSW situated on the banks of the Darling River. In the heart of the Aussie Outback, life in Wilcannia is quiet, clean and beautiful. The Wilcannia Multi-Purpose Service (MPS) has a 24-hour 2 bed emergency department and 8 residential aged care beds. Wilcannia MPS has been providing care to the local community for over 140 years. As we work in partnership with the Royal Flying Doctor Service and Maari Ma the position provides opportunity to learn how to work with other healthcare organisations.

How to apply:

To be considered for this position, please ensure you address the selection criteria in the application as thoroughly as possible.

  • Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent. (N.B. An applicant's race is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised under Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977, NSW).
  • Certificate IV Aboriginal Primary Health Care (Practice) with current registration as an Aboriginal Health Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency. Or willingness to complete within 2 years.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and to liaise with other health professionals and external agencies to facilitate integrated care for Aboriginal people.
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills, time management, and computer literacy including word processing and data entry skills.
  • Active involvement in the local Aboriginal community, with demonstrated understanding and commitment to improving the health issues impacting on Aboriginal communities.
  • Ability to work unsupervised, use own initiative and take a lead role in initiating and carrying out community development activities.
