Junior Medical Officer


Nepean Hospital is a major tertiary referral hospital for NBMLHD and, beyond that, provides high-level inpatient and outpatient services for people of all ages. Inpatient services generally have the capacity to manage high complexity patients who require specialist care. Services provided include Emergency, Critical Care, Acute Medicine, planned and Emergency Surgery, Maternity, Neonatal, Paediatric Medicine and minor Surgery, Mental Health, Aged Care and Rehabilitation services, Drug and Alcohol, and a broad range of specialist outpatient clinics and services.

What you'll be doing

  • Taking a leadership role in coordinating the admission.
  • Coordinating and documenting the admission, management and discharge planning.
  • Communicating and coordinating care with their team.
  • All decisions concerning the patient(s) in consultation with their immediate supervisor and team.
  • Check patients attending for BMD, PET and Nuclear Medicine service.
  • Assess prior imaging as to relevance and findings.
  • Assist in PET, and Nuclear Medicine reporting, and in the Departmental teaching and education program.
  • Assist with triaging of request forms, and where relevant, speaking with referrers.

Where you'll be working

  • Radiology: there is 24 hour on site general radiology and CT cover with an on‐site radiographer and on call radiology Trainees and consultants. Specialist on call radiographers are available for Nuclear Medicine scans.
  • Nuclear Medicine: a full range of diagnostic and therapeutic Nuclear Medicine services is offered, including SPECT‐CT. A comprehensive PET service is also offered. The Department operates Mon‐Fri 0800‐1800.

Essential requirements
  • MBBS or equivalent, currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category.
  • At least three years' postgraduate experience in public hospital service (or equivalent).
  • Demonstrated clinical practice as a registered medical practitioner in the last 2 years in a setting appropriate to the needs of the position.
  • Demonstrated interest in and intention to undertake training in Radiology/Medical Imaging.
  • This position is subject to an appropriate supervision level which can be supported by the health agency. If the incumbent’s registration conditions include supervision requirements, the level of supervision must be able to be supported by the health agency for this role.
  • Valid Working with Children Check, cleared National Police Check.
  • To be employed by NSW Health you are required to provide evidence of vaccination to comply with the NSW Health Occupational Assessment, Screening & Vaccination against Specified Infectious Diseases Policy, this includes any amendments made from time to time.

  1. Qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role.
  2. Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgment and expertise.
  3. Adept ability to work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams, including the sharing of appropriate information internally and externally with key persons or services.
  4. Advanced verbal, written and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to vary communication style in line with the understanding of the needs of diverse audiences.
  5. Demonstrated ability to prioritise workloads and display a flexible approach to meet changing situations in a demanding and unpredictable clinical environment.
  6. Demonstrated commitment to continuing professional development and self-education.
  7. Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
