Sydney Local Health District is seeking a highly motivated Medical Officer with an interest in Neurosurgery to join the Neurosurgery Team at RPA Hospital as an Unaccredited Trainee.

What you will be doing:

This position is designed to benefit a junior doctor who wishes to pursue a career in Neurosurgery. The Neurosurgical Unaccredited trainee is accountable for care of surgical patients, as a delegate of the specialist medical officer involved in the management of the patient, as part of a multidisciplinary team. You will have supervision appropriate to your level of experience and through this role will develop further expertise in medical and neurosurgical practice in a complex clinical environment.

You will be required to teach and supervise other more junior clinical staff and medical students within the department, and participate in the Department’s quality assurance activities. Research activities are encouraged and supported.

  1. Qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role and a minimum of 3 years post graduate experience.
  2. Previous clinical neurosurgery experience.
  3. Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgement and expertise.
  4. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  5. Demonstrated high level communication skills, both written and verbal.
  6. Skills in time management, prioritisation and problem solving.
  7. Commitment to own continuing professional development and self-education and Commitment to quality improvement and patient safety.
  8. Demonstrated interest in teaching and research in neurosurgery and completion or enrolment in relevant courses such as EMST. Research in areas supported at Sydney LHD preferred.
