We are seeking Trainees in Psychiatry based at Bloomfield Hospital in Orange NSW. As a psychiatry trainee in the Western NSW Local Health District there are many training terms available. This vacancy is for six months from August 2025 to February 2026.

The main purpose of the role is to ensure provision of safe and high quality clinical treatment and care services, whilst ensuring appropriate balance between clinical and training responsibilities. Must be a current trainee with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP).

Our Mental Health, Drug and Alcohol Services are a critical part of the care we deliver to our local communities. We are at the forefront in the delivery of rural and remote mental health, drug and alcohol services across a catchment area of 400,000 square kilometres with the regional centres of Dubbo, Orange and Bathurst as hubs to provide services both locally and to our more rural and remote towns.

What you'll be doing
The purpose of the position is to provide effective specialist psychiatric health services to patients and their families, whilst undertaking learning and professional development activities with the aim of progressing through training to become a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP). The successful applicant will demonstrate a commitment to working within a multidisciplinary team to enhance the assessment and management of those under their care utilising a biopsychosociocultural framework that supports integrated mental and physical health care. They will have a passion and commitment to learning, education and professional development within Psychiatry demonstrated by ongoing development in expertise and progression towards attainment of Fellowship competencies of the RANZCP. Across time, the position holder will provide high quality patient care throughout the mental health care continuum, in differing settings and with people across the lifespan. The successful applicant is expected to contribute to improving mental health care for Aboriginal people, and suitable Aboriginal applicants will be given priority in Network allocation.

  1. Qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role.
  2. Must have Australian experience or be eligible for Competent Authority pathway.
  3. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team including leadership and direction to ensure appropriate management of patients.
  4. Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgement and expertise, with demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
  5. Demonstrated excellent communication skills (verbal and written), time management, problem solving and computer skills.
  6. Evidence of continuing professional development and commitment to self-education.
  7. Current trainee in with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP), or selected by RANZCP to commence training (for Stage 1).
