The Clinical Nurse Consultant is a Registered Nurse who has responsibility for ensuring the safe and timely provision of specialised care for patients presenting with a Breast Cancer diagnosis to St George Hospital. The McGrath Breast Care Consultant Nurse will provide specialised breast care, information, education, and support to clients relating to breast cancer in accordance with evidence based clinical practice guidelines and the McGrath Model of Care.
The McGrath MBCN provides leadership in the development and enhancement of specialist services for women and men presenting with Metastatic Breast Cancer and facilitates innovative evidence-based practice, in accordance with clinical practice guidelines and the McGrath Model of Care.
The McGrath MBCN acts as a clinical expert in advanced breast cancer and functions as a resource person to patients, families, and staff at St George Hospital. The McGrath MBCN will have expert knowledge regarding the spectrum of Breast Cancer, inclusive of health assessment, treatment pathways, referrals, and on-going coordination of care.

- Current Authority to Practice as a Registered Nurse, Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and a current NSW Driver's Licence (if required by the service).
- Minimum five years full time equivalent post registration experience, with at least 3 years full time equivalent experience in Oncology, Palliative Care or Breast Cancer Nursing, with Post Graduate Qualifications in Breast Care Nursing and/or post graduate qualifications relevant to the field of practice.
- Demonstrated effective communication and inter-personal skills across a variety of mediums and an understanding of the practice development framework.
- Proven ability to implement changes and develop direction in clinical practice by the utilisation of evidence based research.
- Demonstrated skills in strategic and clinical service planning including an understanding of organisational behaviour, change management and cultural change processes.
- Demonstrated skills in clinical teaching, competency in the use of contemporary information systems and experience in the development of specialty education programs.
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate, plan and implement appropriate management for patients presenting with breast
cancer and the ability to work independently. - Demonstrated extensive cancer care nursing with experience in breast care nursing in an acute care facility.
