About the Opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and experienced individual to manage the competent and cohesive teams in the Sleep Investigation Unit and Pulmonary Function Laboratory at Liverpool Hospital.
Liverpool Hospital Sleep Service encompasses an outpatient sleep clinic, NATA/ASA accredited five bed sleep unit, Home Ambulatory Sleep Testing Service, Respiratory Failure Service and CPAP Therapy Service. It is currently the only public hospital within South Western Sydney Local Health District to provide a comprehensive diagnostic and treatment sleep service.
The Pulmonary Function Laboratory is working towards NATA/TSANZ Respiratory Laboratory accreditation. Current practices are in accordance with the Australian Thoracic Society standards.
The Department has a strong focus on teamwork and collaboration and is supported by management and well developed protocols and procedures.
What You'll be Doing
The Sleep Unit Manager is responsible for the day to day management of the Sleep Unit. The role requires responsible management and administration of staff, equipment and financial resources. The focus is high quality testing, scoring and reporting of a range of polysomnographic tests and encompasses a knowledge of technical and scientific skills specific to the role.
Where You'll Be Working
Liverpool Hospital, founded in 1813, is the major health service for south-western Sydney, providing services to the local government area of Liverpool City Council as well as district services to residents and visitors in the area. It also provides a range of state-wide services in areas such as critical care and trauma, neonatal intensive care and brain injury rehabilitation.
The Hospital provides a health service of international standing, with 23 operating theatres, capacity for 877 beds, diagnostic and imaging services, emergency and trauma care, maternity, paediatric, cancer care, mental health, ambulatory care, allied health and medical and surgical services from birth to aged care.
Liverpool Hospital is currently undergoing a major redevelopment. The $790 million Liverpool Health and Academic Precinct (LHAP) project will provide enhanced facilities and an increased capacity to meet future significant population growth for South Western Sydney.
Liverpool Hospital is a principal referral and teaching Hospital of the UNSW Sydney and the Western Sydney University and also welcome students from over 20 universities and colleges.
Located in the heart of Liverpool City, the hospital is close to public transport, shopping centres and eateries.

- Degree in a Science related discipline or such qualifications as the employer deems equivalent (e.g. Engineering, Nursing, Allied Health etc.)
- Experience in performing all aspects of in-laboratory sleep studies, including respiratory failure and non-invasive therapy techniques
- A clear understanding of AASM scoring guidelines, ability to follow specific scoring guidelines with extensive experience in scoring and analysis of sleep studies
- Experience in the supervision/management of a sleep unit including staff, equipment and financial resources
- Demonstrated experience in the initiation and implementation of changes to improve service delivery, outcomes and models of care in accordance with current evidence based best practice
- Excellent communication, organisational skills, time management and priority setting skills
- Experience with hospital accreditation, ASA/NATA accreditation or quality management systems
- Proven ability to work independently and with other team members and as part of a multidisciplinary team
